Detailed information on this semester’s presentations:

September 3rd: Niclas Ravn Perchet: The Graded Format with a Fragile Patient – Building Capacity and Tracking Signals of UTA

About Niclas: This presentation will focus on the graded format of ISTDP with a fragile patient. Niclas will show as much as possible of one session and highlight the following: The timing of interventions like bracing, graded portrayal and guilt immersion, examples of when and how to move in and out of the transference and some changes in his therapeutic stance when working with fragility. Furthermore the presented case will teach us important signs of rise in the unconscious therapeutic alliance and the complex transference feelings, that is mid-rise, high rise and a first breakthrough.

About Niclas’ presentation: Niclas Ravn Perchet worked in an outpatient hospital setting in the Danish Healthcare system for about 6 years. He predominantly treated patients suffering from personality disorders and complex PTSD, but also patients with affective disorders. He is now working in his private practice full time seeing primarily patients referred from GP’s. Most of his patients suffer from fragility which is becoming his specialty. He has completed a core training with Brian Kok Ravn and 3 years advanced core training with Dr. Allan Abbass and Dr. Joel Town.

October 8th: Javad Naficy: The Express Road to the Unconscious using Dr. Davanloo’s Technique

About Javad: Dr. Naficy graduated from high school with highest honor and completed medical school in Tehran University where Dr. Davanloo got his Medical degree as well. He did his residency in psychiatry at Loyola University and Cheif residency in Chicago medical school. Dr. Naficy regularly attended Dr. Davanloo’s confrences since early 1980 and for a few years attended core training program in Montreal. Currently, Dr.Naficy resides and practice in Beverly Hills California, and his practice is limited to Dr. Davanloo’s technique of Intensive Short-Term Dynamic psychotherapy

About Javad’s presentation: Dr. Naficy will present what he finds to be the essentials of Dr. Davanloo’s technique, based on his many years of collaboration with Dr. Davanloo. He will then proceed to present the evaluation session, trial therapy, and termination sessions with a patient.

November 12th: Glenn Kristoffersson: Treating a Traumatized Patient with the Graded Format

About Glenn: Glenn Kristoffersson is a licensed psychologist and works with therapy and supervision at the ISTDP clinic in Stockholm. He teaches at Stockholm University and at the ISTDP Institute’s three-year core training in Stockholm and Budapest and is a teacher and supervisor trained by Jon Frederickson. He is also involved as a therapist in a research project at Stockholm University, where ISTDP is being tested for treatment-resistant patients with somatic symptom disorder. During the years 2020-2024, Glenn studied with Allan Abbass and John Rathauser, respectively, through monthly supervision and participation in advanced courses.

About Glenn’s presentation: About Glenn’s presentation: Glenn will present a case of a traumatized patient and you will follow the overall treatment stages and learn how to: build a conscious alliance with a fragile traumatized patient who cannot consciously formulate a problem to work with, find the thresholds early in the trial therapy to correctly psychodiagnose the patient, facilitate the multidimensional structural change needed to help the patient process the complex transference feelings tied to traumatic events, understand more deeply how a radical respect for the will of the patient is central to a healing relationship, utilize the guilt immersive approach to speed up the multidimensional structural change, detect projective processes that create a fear state in the patient, deactivate the projective process to co-create a safe working relationship with the patient and detect when the patient unconsciously invites you to enact the traumatic events with you.

December 10th: Lisa Bendzsa: Working with the Regressive Wish

About Lisa: Lisa Bendzsa is a clinical psychologist with 35 years experience. She completed her graduate training at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, specializing in psychodynamic and Jungian approaches to psychotherapy. She worked in a psychoanalytically-oriented psychology department of a large hospital, where she also received specialist training in psychoanalytically-oriented group psychotherapy. Following her marriage, Lisa moved to Newfoundland, Canada, where she has a busy practice, Her clinical practice includes a large proportion of patients from the psychiatry department of the national health service, who have not responded to other treatments. She retired from her position as Clinical Lecturer in Psychiatry at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2022, where she taught and supervised 4 th year resident psychiatrists in a year-long ISTDP programme. Lisa completed core training with Jon Frederickson, in Washington DC, and thereafter completed Jon’s 3-year Training of Trainers programme. She teaches international online core trainings in ISTDP, and half of her practice includes supervision of ISTDP trainees and practitioners around the world.

About Lisa’s presentation: Lisa will present the final phase of therapy in the case of a previously fragile woman, where the regressive wish functions as a barrier to treatment and to embracing her health. Following a brief theoretical introduction, video analysis will focus on moment-to-moment work with the regressive wish as it show up in session, and the breakthroughs that follow, that elucidate the multi-factorial driving forces behind this resistance.
